Persona Live-Action Series In the Works For Netflix

Netflix has announced that they are developing a Persona live-action series based on the video game of the same name produced by Atlus and Sega.

The role-playing game is a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei game series, where a certain person awakens their “Persona,” a manifestation of their psyche and subconscious, empowered with fighting capabilities.

Persona explores the psychology of human nature, highly focused on themes of self-actualization and finding one’s true self. It is packaged in a coming-of-age story about teenagers dragged into an alternate world and fighting using their projection of personality.

Outside of combat, gamers are tasked with forming a “Social Link,” basically interacting with NPCs and building a bond between them. The stronger their Social Links are, the more powerful their Persona becomes, and they can even summon a new Persona.

Based on a report by Variety, the Netflix series will be written by Christopher Monfette, who also serves as the executive producer and its showrunner. He has written various series such as 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard, and 9-1-1. His upcoming project is MCU’s VisionQuest series.

Toru Nakahara from Sega will also executive produce, alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood from 21 Laps, as well as Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen. Emily Feher of 21 Laps will supervise the project.

As of today, Netflix has not made any announcement regarding the Persona live-action series, and they also refused to comment on Variety’s report.

Although that is the case, usually Variety reports hold some truth as they are rooted deep in Hollywood’s ecosystem. We will report more as the story develops.
