MSC 2026 Wildcard Stage Tiebreaker Explained: How Did FUT Esports Lead Group A?

On the second day of the MSC 2026 wildcard stage, a unique situation occurred that caused three teams to engage in a tiebreaker situation.

FUT Esports, Alpha7 North, and The MongolZ in group A finished with the same win-lose rate, 3-1. A tiebreaker is needed to determine the group leader that will advance directly to the wildcard decider phase.

Based on the MSC 2026 regulations, a head-to-head will decide the tiebreaker process, and according to it, FUT Esports becomes the group A leader and will advance further.

How does this tiebreaker process happen?

According to the regulations, if two or more teams finished with the same points, their head-to-head records will be used to determine the final standings. We’ll directly quote the process from the regulations.

  • If the ranking of the tied teams cannot be determined by ranking points, the tied teams will be ranked by head-to-head record.
  • If the ranking of the tied teams cannot be determined by head-to-head record, the tied teams will be ranked by winning time (only the time of winning games)—the less time the team used, the higher ranking the team is.
  • If the ranking of the tied teams cannot be determined by winning time (only the time of winning games), the tied teams will be ranked by the shortest single-game winning time, the less time the team used, the higher rank the team is.
  • If the shortest single-game winning time (only the time of winning games) are still the same, then the longest single-game winning time will be compared. The less time the team used, the higher rank the team is.
  • All match time data is based on the in-game results screen.

Ultimately, it was the total time it took to win their games that proved the key differentiator. If we tally the total match time for all the tied teams, FUT Esports has the shortest combined time, which made them the group A winner.

We also have the data to back this claim. Based on the statistics collected by Liquipedia, here are the total match times for FUT, Alpha7, and MongolZ.

Match 1Match 2Match 3Total
FUT15:0911:5314:0641:08
Alpha719:3517:019:5846:34
MongolZ23:5710:5811:4446:39

As we can see, FUT Esports completed their matches in the shortest time. All their matches are done in up to 15 minutes at the most.

While Alpha7 North has the fastest match time, they took quite a long time to warm up by wrapping their first two games in over 15 minutes. The Mongolz were a bit unlucky, as their first match was done in 23 minutes, which hurt their sub-12-minute window.

So there you have it. With FUT being the most consistent team in performance, they deserve to directly move into the wildcard decider phase.
