How Secret WAG Promotion Affects the FFWS SEA 2026 Grand Finals

Secret WAG has been announced to take Team Akkee’s place at the FFWS SEA 2026 Fall grand finals. The decision came after Team Akkee failed to complete their travel administration process.

Team Akkee from Thailand is unable to provide valid passports of their team members to the organizing committee. The failure was a breach of tournament regulation, since all teams must provide sufficient travel documents in the case of them qualifying for the grand finals in Surabaya, Indonesia.

As such, the seventh-ranked team at the end of the knockout stage, Secret WAG, was promoted to take Team Akkee’s place. The promotion caused a heated discussion on social media, since the Vietnamese teams got really lucky and will have a big chance to pull a back-to-back FFWS SEA title since their last victory at the FFWS SEA 2026 Spring last May.

The late addition of Secret WAG definitely shifted the dynamics of the FFWS SEA 2026 grand finals, as mentioned by various Free Fire coaches during a media press conference session.

AFM, ONIC Olympus’ coach, and Tri Julio, MBR Omega’s coach, agreed that Team Akkee’s inexperience in professional Free Fire tournaments has led to this outcome. For AFM, the change in team lineup meant that he has to change his initial plans for the grand finals.

“From a competitive perspective, I’ve had to reassess the dynamics of the drop zone. The interests of ONIC and Secret WAG overlap around Pochinok, Mars Electric, and Clock Tower,” he explained.

“In terms of gameplay, we need to reassess some potential drop-zone clashes. Their presence makes the grand finals all the more exciting, and we’re ready to put up a fight,” added Tri.

AFM also stated that with Team Akkee’s withdrawal, all Thai teams will go all out in the grand finals to secure FFWS Global placement and the title if possible.

“The four (Thai) teams that have qualified no longer need to worry about relegation and can focus on the title and a place at the Global. Secret WAG are last season’s champions and dominate the drop zone, so the competition has become tougher,” AFM continued.

“Four Thai teams can now focus on the title and the Global. The arrival of Secret WAG has brought with it a rotation pattern that is now more familiar and relatively easy to read,” added Chrisjo, Bigetron by Vitality’s coach, agreeing with what AFM said.

Meanwhile, Ady, RRQ Kazu’s coach, highlighted what Secret WAG and, collectively, the entire Vietnamese team could do at the FFWS SEA 2026 Fall grand finals.

“The Vietnamese teams are, in essence, a challenge not just for Secret WAG. The rotations of WAG, P Esports, GOW, and other Vietnamese teams are often unpredictable; their boldness and risk management exceed expectations. These four Vietnamese teams have the potential to reshape the META,” said Ady.

Meanwhile, Ady also took a jab at how Indonesian teams do with their scrimmage compared to teams from other regions like Thailand.

“I also believe that Indonesia’s scrim ecosystem is too open, whilst Thailand’s is very closed. Indonesian teams need to be more selective and prioritize the interests of the community and player development, as access to scrims also gives other regional teams the opportunity to learn,” he added.

There are still seven days remaining until the next grand finals at Tunjungan Plaza Convention Hall Surabaya, on September 19 to 20. Teams have enough time to prepare for the unpredictable nature of the grand finals.
