The Secret Behind Thailand’s Dominance Over Vietnam at the FFWS SEA 2026 Spring

Teams from Thailand are still among the favorites to win the FFWS SEA 2026 Spring title. Their dominance are apparent based on the standings for the second week.

A majority of teams from Thailand occupy the top 12 positions that are eligible to start the second knockout stage from the first day.

Starting out as early as possible is important at this phase, as teams could get a maximum allowed chance to try and qualify for the grand finals. Only two teams are eligible for the qualification each day, so teams need all the advantages that they could get.

Meanwhile, another strong candidate, Vietnam, has about three teams in the top 12. While they’re as strong as Thailand teams, they’re not performing as strong as everyone hoped, being outpaced by Indonesian teams such as RRQ Kazu and Bigetron by Vitality.

Chrisjo, Bigetron by Vitality’s coach, attributed Thailand’s dominance to their proven track record and abilities in the Free Fire esports scene.

“The Thai team can dominate the top of the standings because they’ve already proven their strength in previous seasons. This means their opponents are already familiar with their movements, rotations, and team fights,” Chrisjo explains.

Based on that fact, other teams planned their strategy to reduce contact with Thailand teams as much as possible.

“Some teams tend to avoid the risk of team fights against Thailand. That’s why it can be said that during the early to mid-game phases, the Thai team has quite a bit of leeway. In terms of points, they’re also in a safe position since there’s no risk of being eliminated in the early game,” he continued.

The same goes for Vietnamese teams, who shifted their focus to other teams to try staying competitive.

“Meanwhile, since the Vietnamese teams are aware of this, they let the Thai team go and target teams from other regions—whether from Vietnam itself, or Indonesia and Malaysia,” said Chrisjo.

The second knockout phase of FFWS SEA 2026 Spring will begin from May 8 to 17.
