YAO Debut SIngle “777” Released, New Japanese Super Unit is Born

A new Japanese musical supergroup, YAO, has just debuted their first single titled “777,” which blends various sounds and genres into a powerful track.

YAO was formed by members of rock band ONE OK ROCK and Paledusk, with rappers Awich and CHICO CARLITO participating as well.

The collaboration began between ONE OK ROCK and Awich during a concert. The performance impressed Taka so much that the OOR’s frontman discussed further collaboration with the hip-hop artist.

During YAO’s development, CHICO CARLITO and Paledusk got invited as well, birthing a new supergroup that takes on the Japanese music industry.

The name YAO itself is deeply rooted in the “yaoyorozu” concept, where countless spirits exist in all things. This concept is clearly visible through their debut track “777” that combines the flavors of rock, hip-hop, and underground/alternative music.

A music video is also released, directed by Awich’s longtime collaborator Hidehito Hotta. It depicts a post-war setting where members of YAO dressed in Japanese school uniforms, playing music together with mobs and acting tough in front of a tank.

“777” is now available through various streaming platforms.
