A Dream Team is Developing New Evangelion Anime

A brand-new Evangelion anime is being developed by Khara, spearheaded by Khara’s staff and various big names in the anime and video game industry.

The news was teased by Khara through a teaser video on YouTube. It will be a joint production between Khara and CloverWorks.

This is the same teaser video that was shown at the final day of Evangelion:30+; 30th Anniversary of Evangelion festival on Monday, February 23; as well as at the end of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time broadcast at TBS later in the evening.

All-star staff for the new Evangelion anime

The new Evangelion anime will be spearheaded by longtime Khara staff. Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toko Yatabe, who helped direct the Rebuild of Evangelion movies, will once again helm the role of director.

What’s interesting is who else will be participating in the anime. It turns out a few of the central figures from the NieR: Automata game and anime will also dip their toes into the Evangelion world.

Director and writer Yoko Taro will write the story and supervise the script. Meanwhile, Keiichi Okabe of MONACA is responsible for the music.

Outside of NieR and also SINoALICE, both Taro and Okabe are also prominent names in the anime industry. Taro has also written scripts for KamiErabi GOD.app and several manga titles. Meanwhile, Okabe worked on various projects for both MONACA and himself; the prominent ones include Nisemonogatari, Wandering Son, and Yuki Yuna is a Hero.

Even more intriguing from the new Evangelion anime announcement is what are the mysteries hiding behind the teaser?

We saw a scene of a ruin, with a dilapidated chair and what seems to be a cello placed at the center of it. Orchestral music plays in the background, accompanied by a choir, a classic style of Okabe in the NieR: Automata series.

The staff is then introduced, followed by a message. It reads, “The eternal summer vacation. This is our paradise. This is our graveyard. What you hear is a song of damnation. May those souls rest in peace.”

The scene then shifts into a dark place, where we saw something that resembles an Evangelion Unit in a berserk state.

What are these hints trying to imply? As the fans are left to guess, their only choice is to eagerly wait for more information from Khara.
