MPL ID S17 Week 2 Day 1 Recap: Good Moment for Dewa United

We finally begin the second week of MPL Indonesia Season 17. The first day set the stage for a packed weekend.

It’s business as usual for ONIC Esports; meanwhile, Dewa United are relishing their continued success as the dark horse of this season.

Fun trivia: The football division of Dewa United also played their Liga 1 match at the same time as their MLBB division. They also won against PSIM Yogyakarta 1-0, so it really is a good day for Anak Dewa.

Check our match recap below. The complete matches can be viewed here.

Match 1: ONIC vs Geek Fam

It’s unthinkable that Geek Fam at one point ruled the MPL Indonesia scene alongside ONIC and went on to represent Indonesia at the M5 World Championship. Now, the team is even struggling to stay in the midtable.

The first game showcased tighter chemistry amongst ONIC players; the triple K trio of Kelra, Kiboy, and Kairi wiped Geek Fam’s floor aggressively. Although Baloyskie and the boys fought as hard, they are no match for the reigning champion.

The second game also concluded relatively fast. Geek Fam were unable to match ONIC’s performance and found themselves dragged beyond help. ONIC comfortably secured the second game and continued their domination at the top.

Match 2: Dewa United vs NAVI

This is a matchup between two dark horse teams that have the potential to shake up the competition. Unfortunately, MPL Indonesia doesn’t have a big enough place for two dark horses.

Octa played a key role in Dewa United’s first game victory. His Zetian gameplay is spot on, with his control of Zetian’s ultimate becoming the deciding factor of their victory.

Unfortunate for NAVI, as they seem to lose focus constantly on the second game. A lot of advantages were squandered, and Dewa United swooped in to turn the table against them. While the match relatively ran as balanced as possible, NAVI could not hold back Dewa United’s offense.
