MPL ID S17 Week 1 Day 2 Recap: 2 in a Row Loss for Alter Ego
The second day of the first week of MPL Indonesia Season 17 continues as more teams get accustomed to the battlefield.
Once again, we saw teams getting their due lessons for underestimating the opposition. There were fast matches, ending in clean victories, while we were also treated to a thrilling match at the end of the day.
Match 1: EVOS vs GEEK Fam

Against Geek Fam, EVOS Esports came to this match with a fresher look. Luke returned to the scene, and new member Treacky substituted for their main weapon, Pheww.
EVOS has been playing hard since the first game. They had good synergy with Alberttt and Kyy spearheading the attack and Erlan picking off the kills with his Granger. Erlan’s maniac is just the icing on the cake for EVOS’s first game lead against Geek Fam.
EVOS are able to keep their momentum coming to the second game. Treacky rose up to the task as Pheww’s substitute, racking up kills alongside other members. With two game victories, EVOS sealed the match and left Geek Fam in the dust.
MATCH 2: Alter Ego vs ONIC

This is the season 16 grand finals rematch. Alter Ego is still sticking to their old formula, despite losing to Bigetron yesterday. ONIC, on the other hand, has Kelra, which made the difference right away.
Playing Yi Sun Shin, Kelra displayed a strong form by bullying the opposition while keeping damages to a minimum. Everyone was playing aggressively as well, punching fast and not giving an inch. Alter Ego had to let go of the first game.
Alter Ego managed to gain the upper hand in the second game. They had a good snowball up until midgame, when ONIC was slowly chipping away at their gold difference. In a flash, Alter Ego’s advantage vanished, and Kelra managed to spearhead the finishing blow that secured their victory.
Match 3: Team Liquid vs NAVI

Coming off their victory against RRQ, Natus Vincere seems confident to beat Team Liquid ID, who have faced a bit of turmoil lately and are now focusing on developing their young rookies.
In the first game, we see NAVI overcommitting their attacks, which actually backfired. Through Lyoni, TLID took advantage of the situation to give a devastating counterattack, locking in the first game to them.
In an ironic twist, TLID also overcommitted on the second game. This gave NAVI an opening to level the match, courtesy of Karss’ precise targeting. In the decider game, both teams fought tooth and nail, but eventually TLID managed to break the stalemate and beat NAVI 1-2.
