PB ESI Announces Indonesia’s Participation in the 2026 Asian Games Esports

Indonesia is participating in the 2026 Asian Games esports category, the Esports Federation of Indonesia (PB ESI) has announced.

Announced on their social media on February 20, they will represent Indonesia’s participation in the esports category of the 2026 Asian Games at Aichi, Japan.

“PB ESI officially determined Indonesia’s participation through the entry-by-number mechanism in the esports sport branch of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan,” PB ESI wrote.

There are a total of 11 medal divisions for this year’s Asian Games. The game’s genres vary between MOBA, battle royale, fighting games, puzzle, and also sim racing.

The esports category itself will be held at Aichi Sky Expo, Tokoname, Aichi, from September 23 to October 2, 2026.

Out of 11 medal divisions, Indonesia will send their delegates to 9 divisions. They are skipping League of Legends and Puyo Puyo Champions.

Here are the medal divisions that Indonesia will participate in at the 2026 Asian Games esports category.

As stated above, PB ESI has signed Indonesia to the 2026 Asian Games esports category through the entry-by-number mechanism. This means that Indonesia has just finished their administration duties, but is yet to be confirmed to participate in the esports category, pending

This is because every participating nation has to pass through a qualifier tournament first. Each division’s qualifier is subject to regulations from the Asian Games committee and the games’ respective publishers.

“This step ensures Indonesia remains on the official path to the 2026 Asian Games. PB ESI, through the National Team Body, is committed to preparing Indonesian National Esports Team athletes in a focused and professional manner to ensure the best possible chance of advancing to the main stage,” PB ESI added.

Indonesia has yet to win a gold medal at the esports Asian Games. But at the 2018 Asian Games, Hendry “Jothree” Handisurya won a silver medal in Hearthstone.

For the 2026 edition, Indonesia can count on some of their leading game titles, such as MOBA, football, and battle royale. In the MOBA scene, Indonesia is highly likely to qualify in Mobile Legends and Honor of Kings, with Pokemon Unite proving to be quite a challenge but still possible.

Indonesia is also one of the world’s powerhouses in eFootball, both on PC and mobile. Indonesia’s participation in various eFIFA tournaments resulted in either a podium or straight-up first place

The battle royale segment is pretty interesting, with PUBG Mobile being our top title, but Naraka: Bladepoint will prove to be a bit difficult, as this is not a popular esports title in Indonesia. The same goes with the asymmetrical horror game Identity V.

Indonesia’s FGC scene is quite flourishing, yet it’s rare to see local talents highlighting overseas tournaments. This is also proven with Indonesian esports organizations preferring to recruit established names from overseas. But we will see how they will fare.

One interesting addition is Gran Turismo 7, where sim racing in Indonesia is usually governed by the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI)’s Digital Motorsport division, which has been approved by the Federation Automobile L’Internationale (FIA).

We will see how both PB ESI and IMI will work together to delegate players for sim racing. Speaking about Gran Turismo 7, Indonesia has a quite strong disposition in Southeast Asia but will have a pretty difficult time fighting against top players from Japan.

In any case, Indonesia is fielding a pretty strong lineup, and at least half of them could already be confirmed to be participating at the 2026 Asian Games. We will see how the qualifier goes for all the titles confirmed.
