God of War Laufey Announced, Stars Kratos' Wife

Santa Monica Studio dropped a surprise title during a recent PlayStation State of Play, announcing God of War Laufey as yet another spinoff from the critically acclaimed series.

The game’s main character is Faye, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, also known as Laufey, a Jotunn warrior and also a god. In the original 2018 God of War game, Faye was already deceased, and her death sets in motion Kratos and Atreus’ adventure to scatter her ashes.

God of War Laufey is set right after Kratos burned Faye’s dead body at the beginning of the 2018 game, where her soul is sent to another realm called the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods and mythical entities from around the world reside.

Faye, sensing that Kratos and Atreus might fail their journey, looks for a way back to the mortal realm. But Everywhen is not as peaceful as it seems, where malevolent gods like Begtse and Sekhmet cause destruction and ruin.

In her journey, Faye meets with a cosmic cube named Phranque and a ribbon-like creature called Rue who is tied to a mysterious sword said to be cursed. Together, they work to solve Faye’s predicament and bring peace to the Everywhen.

Faye must find her way back to the mortal world to make sure that Kratos and Atreus are okay. (PlayStation)

Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil TV series) returns as Faye/Laufey, in which she also provides her likeness and motion capture. She will be joined by Jack Quaid (The Boys) as Phranque, Perlina Lau (Friday Night Bites) as Rue, and the returning Christopher Judge (Stargate SG-1) as Kratos.

God of War Laufey showcases a different style of gameplay than the mainline games. Faye can navigate the world and attack in a fast, nimble fashion. This will favor players who prefer a fast, high-mobility style of gameplay.

Faye also possessed magical abilities, such as separating enemies’ souls from their body and attacking it to inflict massive damage. She can also manipulate souls, such as by hurling them toward another enemy.

More details about God of War Laufey will be shared at a later date. The game is currently in development and will highly likely be a PlayStation 5 exclusive title.
